Available Government Grants
It is a smart idea to check your eligibility for Australian Government grants and funding programs.
Grants are lump sum amounts that do not need to be repaid – “free”. However, a large number of organisations may apply for the grant so competition is strong. Grants are made available to organisations that meet the specific criteria and conform to certain circumstances. Grants will vary in amount, application and eligibility criteria.
There are a number of grants available to small businesses from the federal, state and local government. To see a full list of grants and assistance programs, visit the Australian Government’s Grants & Assistance Finder.
It is also important to keep in mind that most Australian Government grants are geared towards providers of essential services in key sectors (e.g. Mining). A majority of grants and assistance available to small businesses are for business activities such as research and development, innovation and exporting. There are very few grants made available to starting a business.
Therefore, it will be highly beneficial to seek professional advice concerning which grants are right for your business and whether your business meets specific eligibility criteria.
